Mahmood Samandarian, a renowned watercolor painter, was born in 1963 in Isfahan. He graduated from Tehran College of Fine Arts and developed a deep interest in watercolor painting during his teenage years. Since then, he has continuously honed his skills in this medium.
Reflecting on his artistic journey, Samandarian acknowledges the influence of great masters like Yervand and Sambat. He describes watercolor as one of the most challenging painting techniques. According to him, fewer brushstrokes result in higher-quality work. Unlike other techniques, watercolor does not allow for corrections or alterations during the painting process. Therefore, an artist must carefully plan every detail before starting. However, he emphasizes that logic and calculation should not overshadow artistic emotions. Instead, technical precision and feelings should blend harmoniously to bring the artwork to life.
Samandarian’s works have appeared in over a hundred domestic and international exhibitions. In addition to his career as a professional painter and illustrator, he has authored several books. His passion for teaching has led him to establish a private painting school while also lecturing at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Throughout his career, he has earned numerous prestigious awards. Some of his notable achievements include the second prize at the Iranian Contemporary Painting Biennale (1993), the first prize at the Art and Nature Exhibition (1993), and the special award for the opening of the Palestine Museum (2007). His dedication to watercolor painting continues to inspire both emerging and established artists.
